The Danger Of Staying Within The Restrictions Of One's Comfort Zone

The Danger Of Staying Within The Restrictions Of One's Comfort Zone

How often have you, or someone you know, explained the reasons for their behavior, by saying, they aren't comfortable doing something, or it wouldn't feel right, or wouldn't be, them? Isn't that actually, simply an example of terminal excusitis, or falling back on excuses, whenever, we didn't want to do something? We often refer to the restrictions (self - imposed) of our personal comfort zone, and how, the most successful, personally satisfied, individuals, are those, who are ready, willing, and able to do so. However, this takes a combination of being inspired and motivated, having reasons, and commitment, to endure the nervousness, challenges, and overcome one's fears. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review, and discuss, a few methods or approaches, to make your life better, and enhancing the possibilities.
1. Affirmations/ affirmation list: An affirmation is a positive statement, in the present tense, proclaiming how things should be, and stating them, as if they are, so you might begin to visualize this change, in how you proceed. Many have had success in using Affirmation Lists, and, I have found, in my, over four decades of involvement, giving personal development/ self - help seminars, a list with 10 items/ statements, works best/ effectively, for most. For example, if one has a body - issue, and wants to lose weight, the statement should not be, I am going to lose 30 pounds, but, for example, saying, I am proud of how I look now, after what I've done, to look better. If you feel, you need to stop, interrupting others, you would not say, you won't interrupt, but, for example, I am an effective listener, who enjoys listening and learning from every conversation and experience, in order to develop expertise and greater judgement and wisdom. What things would you like to improve, about yourself? What might be your personal Affirmation List? Once you've developed, and customized, yours, commit, to, at least four times per day, while looking into a mirror, reading and feeling your preferences. You will notice, after a few weeks, you may no longer need, one or more specific items, so if you are certain, modify your list, and address other issues. Remember, it's in your best personal interest!
2. True, positive attitude: It doesn't help to proceed through life, wearing, rose - colored glasses. However, the happiest, healthiest, most personally successful, self - satisfied individuals, proceed, consistently, with a genuine, positive, can - do, attitude.
3. Handling obstacles: You can either consider obstacles as problems or challenges, but those who perceive them, as a challenge, are far more likely, to handle them, comfortably, and productively. Spend a moment, and consider, how you visualize something, you perceive as a problem, versus a challenge.
4. How do you handle stress?: Dr. Hans Salye won the Nobel Prize, for his work, in the area of human stress. Briefly, his premise is, one can either handle stress productively or not, and those, who do, transform stress (he referred to positive stress as eustress) to becoming better, which is far better than letting stress control you!
You may think you're safe and comfortable, when you remain within the restrictions of your personal comfort zone, but, the reality is, you are not! Become your own best friend, rather than your worst enemy!
